To Nap or Not?
Einstein, Thomas Edison, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, believed in the power of the nap. Neuroscientist Dr Tara Swart advocates that company employees should be encouraged to take ‘power naps’ to improve their working efficiency and creativity, and so outcomes. Maybe we should call them ‘empower naps’?. Professor Mathew Walker (director of Center for Sleep Research, California) is pro-naps and states that a 60-minute kip significantly “dissipates negative moods, boosts positive moods and lowers levels of anxiety”. Harvard University even showed that when the siesta culture in Greece in the ‘90’s began to phase out naps, there was a marked rise in cardiovascular disease!
Short naps can create for the HSP a personal space within which to calm the over-stimulated nervous system and ‘recharge the batteries’. It is an opportunity for the HSP to display the resilience they possess within. But even better! Meditation has even greater health and well-being benefits, especially for HSP’s. Speak to Mark about SMT (Stillness Meditation Therapy – refer to earlier newsletter).
So, for now, never underestimate the power of a quick Nap!
