Some Misconceptions about HSP's
a) “HSP’s are those ‘high maintenance’ people at work who always complain about the air-conditioning, their work space, the light in the room, the food provided for morning tea or lunch,
‘deadlines for work to be done, etc.”
NO!!! – HSP’S are generally the people who suffer in silence. They would be mortified if they found out that other workers thought of them in a negative light, but more than that they are
generally acutely aware of and very sensitive to how people react and respond to them. For this reason, they would put up with feeling uncomfortable rather than FEEL any negativity directed towards them.
(This should not be confused with wanting to be liked or related self-esteem issues.)
b) HSP’s are “anti-social” and often avoid social functions, etc.
NO!!! – HSP’s enjoy a certain amount of socialising but definitely not all the time. They enjoy a balance between socialising and spending time by themselves. This time by themselves is essential
to regain their poise and re-charge their ‘batteries’. If they don’t get ‘down time’ they won’t enjoy anything much and ultimately their health will suffer.
c) HSP’s are picky about the food they eat, they follow some ‘fad’ dietary regime in a book they have read.
NO!!! They just are very aware of their own digestive preferences and biochemical make-up. And they would have given it much thought and consideration as they do with everything.
e) HSP’s just shop and change courses, jobs and careers often, especially the young ones.
MAYBE!!! But that is because most HSP’s need to feel that their work is meaningful, a good pay-check is not good enough by itself to keep them motivated.
f) HSP’s think and feel too deeply about everything.
NO!!! They think and feel just the right amount for themselves, being highly sensitive people, in order to navigate their life successfully.
